KML Momentum & Summer Vibes

There’s a unique energy that comes with summer—a blend of warmth, optimism, and a fresh sense of possibility. It’s a time when momentum builds naturally, inspiring us to take bold steps forward while still soaking in the season’s lighter moments. At Kayla Moran Law, we’re embracing that balance: moving ahead with purpose, while appreciating the rhythm and flow that summer brings.

I keep seeing it all over Threads: lazy girl or soft girl summer is in. But there’s a few circulating that emphasize how ambitious, entrepreneurial women can’t subscribe to the idea.

While I don’t fully disagree, if I’ve learned anything in the last three years of building in public, it's that there’s seasons of business, just as there are seasons of life.

Several of my female powerhouse mentors, from lawyers to CEOs echo that notion.

After a fast paced, always on the go Q1 and first half of Q2, I’m leaning into a slower season, which doesn’t exactly line up with industry standards but is much needed to lean into the momentum I built earlier in the year. This early summer season reminds me that growth isn’t just about hustle; it’s about syncing with the right pace, cultivating meaningful relationships, and staying curious about what’s next. Whether you’re scaling a brand, refining your contracts, or just looking for inspiration, there’s a powerful vibe in the air—and we’re ready to ride it.

Summer Experiences Recap

Miami Swim Week

This year’s Miami Swim Week hosted by Paraiso Miami Beach and other agencies brought together some of the most exciting names in beauty, fashion, and content—and I was so excited to be part of it all.

I’ve been attending for 3-4 years now and it’s always fun to see the brands who year after year hold relevance and which ones are currently IT.

I had the chance to attend the Tinye Swim, five year anniversary show, titled Colorma, which was a stunning celebration of bold creativity, vibrant and timeless design, and the growing intersection between fashion and personal branding. My friend, Sara Requena, is the founder and her brand was built on her own experience and taste in swimwear growing up in Venezuela and Miami. I also attended Oceanus’ first major show, a UK resort wear brand known for their hand beaded designs. The energy in the rooms was unreal—so much creativity, every look told a story, and every brand and agency made a statement.

It’s events like this that remind me how essential it is for creatives to protect the identities they work so hard to build. That’s why I’m so passionate about protecting intellectual property, aka my career as a trademark lawyer. More on that in a future newsletter and LinkedIn post.

I was also invited to stop by the Clarins Gifting Suite, where beauty met wellness in the most elevated way. Their attention to detail, from curating the influencers they invited, how they leaned into their established branding to activating at a major South Beach hotel, was a masterclass in how legacy brands continue to innovate while staying true to their roots. It was a beautiful reminder of how powerful a well-protected and consistent brand identity can be over time.

Miami Swim Week continues to be a space where fashion, content, and commerce collide—and where legal protection is more relevant than ever. Even they’ve had their own trademark battles and I’ll be sure to cover it when there’s resolution.

Whether it’s securing your trademarks, and building an IP portfolio, licensing your designs, or structuring brand collaborations and partnerships with creators of the moment, there’s so much happening behind the scenes that keeps the creativity flowing and the business protected.

TikTok Live Program

I had the absolute pleasure of spending an incredible afternoon with the TikTok and TikTok LIVE US Official team last month at their Miami HQ—and it was nothing short of surreal. I barely have a following on Tik Tok but you can’t say I’m not consistent in my networking and showing up. Being invited into their space, connecting with the minds behind one of the most powerful platforms shaping the creator economy, and beginning early conversations around potential collaboration was a true pinch-me moment.

I covered the whole will they-won’t they ban the clock app in the end of 2024 and early 2025 so even more reason to be shocked at the opportunity.

A huge thank you to Yannick Luna, Joseph T. Meehan, Merzia Cutlerywala (if you’re reading this), and the rest of the TikTok team for the warm welcome and inspiring conversation and connecting more agencies and players in the Miami community. I'm feeling beyond energized about the future—and excited to keep the momentum going as we manifest something big together.

Palm Beach Paradise

I had the chance to take a much-needed breath after a long few weeks of events, meetings and contracts. I went on a staycation with one of my oldest and closest friends from law school to Palm Beach. What made the trip truly special was that this friend was also my assigned mentor when I first started law school and now she’s my confidant and voice of reason or delusion (lol)—a relationship that has come full circle in the best way. Reflecting on those early days, taking a step back from our day to days and reconnecting reminds me how valuable mentorship and genuine friendships are in both law and life.

It’s incredible to see how far we’ve both come since those first nerve-wrecking weeks of school. That Palm Beach trip was more than just a vacation; it was a reminder of the power of long-lasting relationships and the importance of keeping those bonds alive, especially in a profession as demanding as ours. We may not always have deep talks daily or see each other monthly (well now we will since she moved to FL) but making an effort to spend time together is important. Sometimes, stepping away to recharge with those who understand your journey is the best way to keep moving forward. Not to mention Palm Beach was the perfect place to soak in some sun, have good food, and enjoy many brunches and sunset happy hours.

The Summer Glow Up for KML

We’re leaning all the way into growth—in all ways, personally, professionally and strategically. It’s not just about scaling my practice; my priority is elevating the way we serve our clients and connect across industries.

And for me personal and professional go hand in hand. The more I’ve refined my vision and approach, the more I've learned about myself, and vice versa. I’m also learning to extrapolate the lessons and takeaways from the moments and things I hyperfocus on (and maybe I’m jealous of), it just means I want that for myself too, so its time to get to work.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been meeting with top PR and marketing agencies to build stronger relationships and understand how legal fits more seamlessly into the brand-building process. And to provide these companies with support as they evolve to meet the needs of their clients. These conversations are opening new doors for collaborative opportunities and reinforcing one key theme: legal doesn’t just protect your brand—it enhances it.

To keep sharpening my own edge, I also enrolled in the Être Brand Masterclass, led by two incredible women—Danielle Garno and Heather Monahan—who bring unmatched experience in personal branding, law, and leadership. The course starts this week but my coffee date with Danielle already sparked fresh ideas and frameworks. I’m excited to integrate into how Kayla Moran Law approaches everything from contracts to client strategy. It’s one more step in my commitment to not just keep up with the pace of modern business—but to stay ahead of it.

This "glow-up" isn’t just about aesthetics or surface-level updates—it’s about building deeper foundations, smarter systems, and stronger partnerships that help our clients shine even brighter.

And on a personal note too, I’m getting back into journaling and my walks, yoga and pilates. I redownloaded ClassPass after cancelling my gym membership because I just wasn’t using it enough. Podcasts and reading newsletters have been a really great way to learn and invest in myself too.

Trademark Season

Lately, I’ve been deep in trademark consults—working closely with creators, founders, and entrepreneurs who are ready to launch, take their brands to the next level or are concerned about enforcing their brands. Whether it's a personal brand, product line, or business name, more people are recognizing that a strong trademark isn’t just a formality—it’s a foundational and lucrative asset.

If you’re sitting on a name, logo, or phrase that represents your business or creative identity, waiting too long to protect it can open the door for others to claim it first (and yes, it happens more often than you'd think), like the situation Kissing Cowboys is facing, for example

I always say: the moment you're ready enough to post about your brand is the moment you should be thinking about securing it legally. Launch fast and adjust and get in early.

Trademark registration gives you ownership, leverage, and peace of mind—especially as you grow, collaborate, or scale into new markets. And with more brands popping up online every day, the window for claiming your space is getting tighter.

So if you've got a name you're building around, let's make sure it’s yours—officially.

Quote of the Month

Outro

What a nice kick off to summer  for KML in June—a month that reminded me how much can shift when you stay open to growth, say yes to new opportunities, and trust the timing of your own journey. From reconnecting with old friends to stepping into new rooms and conversations, this season has felt like a turning point and coming home to myself in the best way.

I’m so grateful for the people, projects, and energy that continue to pour into this work and me. It means a lot to have a community that supports not just the business, but the person behind it too.

Thanks for reading, supporting, and being part of this with me. I’m excited to see where the rest of the summer takes us—and I hope you’re finding your own version of momentum, whatever that looks like right now.

Keeping Up with Kayla and Kayla Moran Law

Let’s make June a month of purpose, passion, and productivity.

Thanks for reading!

Kayla
